Mapping and bringing design thinking into the research process, I tried to do it as an action research project, one of the things I've been struggling with is to get the balance between action research and writing. Co-working, co-design

Ferne Edwards

Worked on ShareCities that looked at food sharing practices. Now in Barcelona Edicitnet - https://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/216082_en.html

Over the next 5 years. My goal is to look at how sustainable urban governance can work so, governance and social inclusion, so right now we are trying to create local groups. What I'd love to learn from people here is some of the perspectives on governance.

Sara Mahmoud . Open Data Institute (Not for Profit)

We think about Open Source, Open Government, Open Data.

What we did in the past - RD program on P2P accommodation platforms, looked at data from Inside Airbnb and compared with AirDna whic is aimed at investors, so we looked at how national governments could get data out of the platforms.

We clustered differet types of data access. From data markets to commons. In the UK data trusts are a legal entity, we are working with the london authority on smart lamp data.

What we will do in the future - We will work on a framework for smart cities in the UK, to promote an open infrastructure, anyone who can help us understand what cities are doing but interested to meet with any else working on that.

Guillaume Compain

PhD candidate in Sociology researching Platform Cooperativism Movement

Who are those people?

How do they do it?

What are the features of these platforms?

What are organisational models, finance models?

What do unions do and what are their relation to the platform coops?

Lucie Zvolska - Lund University - Environmental Economics

Project: Urban Sharing - 6 other researchers

The environmental effect of sharing platforms

We do an input output analysis

We look at the institutionalisation pathways of sharing

We do case studies in 7 different cities with mobile research labs

We have been to Berlin, London, San Francisco and we will go to Seoul, Toronto and Amsterdam.

Govern by provision

Govern by enabling - soft practices such as promoting certain types of sharing

I'm working on the institutionalisation of sharing organisations.

Experience Design in high technology

Background in Creative and Cultural Sector

New Ways Smart Things - Retail Sector, Publishing

How technologies change those sector and how we can make them more collaborative for all stakeholders.

I would be interested in how these terms and practices have changed over the past 10 years I would be very interested to know.

I want make something that is sustainable commercially.

Nuria Reguero

Journalist and Researcher collaborating with Dimmons

Reflecting on BroadCast and Radio Spectrum as a Commons

Broadcast, Tv and Radio are still dominant media.

My action research is can we consider media as an Urban Common.

Sharing cities could consider the antenna and equipment as an urban commons.

Barcelona city hall is looking at regulation for Urban Commons and I think this media equipment could be part of this urban commons.

Perhaps the airwaves could be planned with consideration for the urban needs not only the corporate uses.

We have a tv station of 600,000 euro that a small organisation cannot afford and so they are being punished.

Dafni Mangalousi

Looking at European Smart Cities, following a discourse process, looking at the language of European Policy and then looking at Barcelona.

In the discourse of the EU you can see the layers, the city level, the global, the crisis.

So I am interested in how this discourse is used at the local level.

I am interested in the material implications of this discourse, looking at material since 2010.

I went to the Brussels conference of regions and cities to see the differences in discourse between cities.

Building a model to create resilient, happy, compassionate and fair, small medium sized communities, we have rented a mill town about 100 km outside of Barcelona, we have work for rent contract to re-establish and protect the cultural heritage of the mill-town. We are hoping to build a cooperative. Looking at Cooperative Integral, Sociocracy 3.0. We are looking for collaborators here.

We are interested in alternative currencies. The ecoxarxa. We welcome researchers.

Federico Piovesan

Openpolis

We are hoping to develop into a participatory lab next year. Its an action research project. We base it on the articles of the GDPR. Why should people taking part should care about companies holding their data. Then shifting the perspective to ask what other actors could use this information and how we could use it in our communities. Then to explore if these kinds of actors might contribute to some kinds of local data commons.

Monica Berardi

During my PhD I deepen the topic of the Urban Governance model and I look at how the public adminstration can integrate the services of the sharing economy to improve the quality of life of the citizens. So it is important to shift from the paradigm of the commercial sharing economy to a broader sharing paradigm. Study how networks are developing and look at how these people connect public adminstration with other actors. Connecting the bees and the trees from the social innovation literature. I also studied Seoul and Milan but now I also look at Japan.

Moving from a view that is primarily technological to one that looks to connect and put the citizen at the core of their policies.

There were no studies about the history or the foundations of the sharing economy. We constructed a timeline in which we placed important events. We took this as a starting point. We started from the digital transformation. We look at early platforms like Napster. The second driver was 2008 crisis. Many important platforms were launched. The 3rd was the way ownership was replaced by access. How new generation prefer access to ownership.

The data you are working with to what extent do you think it can be open?

Dafni

Most of my data ae in my head, the methodology and the way I do analysis, this recome real in my writing , I do have handwritten notes, but I don't know if they will make sense to anyone else

2

I try to have my data as open as possible, it is not about the ... we share google docs, research frameworks, they are always open

I encourage you to go online and see our blog, we work directly with organisations that have sources of data, there is a lot of technical expertise that I don't have.

Charles university Czech rep

3 I have found a website that you can use and is great to have analytics

4 in terms of input, hat have of all things??? a platform about puting data from personal repositories into the marketplace and then be able to share it, when it comes to the output, the university of Amsterdam . Data from or for research, it is different.

5 Nuria??? the academia data, the platforms where we are sharing our research, dimia a corporate entreprise that the catalan gov is encouraging researchers to use, as well as twitter or facebook, also the business of the editorial industry.

6 GDPR

We have a research grant from the ERC and we must have a form and most people are ok with that but some people don't want to sign anything. Does anyone have any experience with that?

The experience of being co-authors

Monica

I work alone but working with a research group could be very useful. Transversal groups. People coming from different background won't publish together. Because they can have common research but want to publish in different journals.

Lucie

International Workshop on the Sharing Economy

Monica

Who organises these groups?

Lucie

We organised it and its usually research institutes.

Ferne

Panel - European Association for Social Anthropologists (https://www.easaonline.org/), SIEF

We met through these events and started to create a network and now we are co-editing a book.

We work with city councils, community groups. We need shared terms.

Sara Mahmoud

Spare a thought for researchers working on shorter term 3-6 months projects, I'm interested in how we can facilitate these different kinds of collaborations with those on longer terms projects.

Our institutions are very top down. How can we change the formats? How can we credit people who contribute to our research? We also have a responsibility on how we produce knowledge.
