Conference notes

Judit : what does smart congress mean? find solutions for cities, motto of this year : cities made of dreams

Ada colau said her dream for the city : green, safe and human.

We have to understand cities as metropolitan areas, what connect cities with one another

Eddy : talking about dreams, Som Mobilitat : green, more silent cities with fewer cars, dream we are making possible every day. we are a non-profit consumer cooperative, empower the users, the consumers, to have a more sustainable mobility, to stop using your private car and sell it which leads to a number of changes : buying local instead of going to the mall. We beelived to walking instead of taking the car leads to changes.

Judit : how do you offer solutions to neighborhood where people live to reach big hubs?

eddy : in bcn, our cars are next to big stations because users decided so, in barcelona easier to carsharing, it makes no sense to have cars without public transportation, you only rent car when you need to leave city and public transportation is not an option. In rural areas, they need cars because they don't have public transport.

Ignasi : it is not a matter of mobility, it is a matter of livelability: make that shift, need health, hospitals, etc mobility has to help us do that

Judit : similar to what eddy was saying, do you see carsharing also as solution

Ignasi: we need to think in a multi-modal way, we can't be sustainable without public transportation, but for final mile, we need multimodality

Judit : CEO of Seat has launched new big project on micromobility : shift and need to find new solutions. Bird has been successful, present in over 100 cities. what's your take on Micromobility ?

Haya : every city suffers from two problems: congestion and CO2 emissions, mostly because of private cars, only 1 hour per day by 1 person. Maybe there are over ways to move around. People are using Bird instead of car or uber because Bird is faster, more affordable, more sustainable. At the point of no return with cars

Judit: which app did you use?

Haya : Goggle maps, only to inform me

Judit : what we have to do to really be multi-modal ?

Haya : still far for implementation , with individual apps only beginning to think about that in the industry. Not how I pay for my trip, but how I make the decision.

Eddy: parking are next to train station in cities, we are giving reasons to people for quitting private cars

Ignasi : make it easy for citizen :mobility as a service: current motto to getting to you. Debate is not about having many application but reaching the user, google, as operators we launch an application and other operator launches one, governance public-private-partnership governance

Judit : how to become more agile ? what are your dreams?

Ignasi : digital transformation of the stations, before city-to-city now door-to-door, revolution of design in station, we need places to live not just take train, and need to commute. Right solution for mobility is doing both

Haya : my dreamworld : need to have scooters, limit on number of scooters: take less space than cars; infrastructure : you need to have users and mass, not only cars and few bike lines, you need pedestrians, micromobility, slow cars : city design has to change, more parks; planning : parking space needed ; how do we integrate all these mobility modes

Eddy: Som Mobilitat moving toward energy communities, parking with solar panels where we can produce green energy, more holistic approach

Judit : Barcelona limiting number of bikes, scooters, question of space : if you agree on deisgn of infrastructure, there's a limit

Haya : you can have more parking than now. Convenience is the main reason why people use cars, it has to be convenient.

Intervention 1 : you need to know the solution exists, give chance to city council, they have to be able to evaluate but community has to explore

Ignasi : information , mapping of assets, create marketplaces open or closed : which segments, but still stuck in old ways of doing. for cities : You can't react, you have to anticipate

Haya : in city, because of demand, they have to dedicate space, in barcelona we don't knwo what market wants, we have no data to back it out, been pushing for pilot project to assess

Intervention: affordability of scooters? more expensive than public transportation, no subscription, pay per ride

Haya : working on susbcripton model. different pricing for different groups : have it in the US, testing it in Paris

Eddy : we spent so long about talk more about human economies . think about greener mobility. As soon as you pay per ride with car, you reduce your car usage

Ignasi : retail associated to your movement of higher value than price of your ticket
